What are implant retained dentures?

Implant retained dentures fulfil the same function as removable dentures, by replacing missing or extracted teeth. Instead of being held in place by an adhesive, however, they are clipped in place via implants that are placed in the jawbone for extra comfort and stability. In this way, they’re able to provide a similar level of function as natural teeth.

Why choose implant retained dentures?

Implant retained dentures can provide a more stable and comfortable alternative to traditional removable dentures. They can also allow for greater flexibility and freedom in the patient when it comes to care and eating – harder to eat food such as steaks, apples, and fudge or toffee will be back on the menu.

What is the treatment journey like?

As with all implant treatments, we’ll start with a personalised consultation where we’ll go through your oral health history, all the options open to you, and help you choose which is most suitable. Implants require a certain amount of healthy jawbone to be present to be successful, so we also carry out a cone beam CT scan to ensure the treatment option is available for you.

Once the planning is complete, we invite you back into Nuvo Dental Centre to have your implant retained dentures placed. This will be done in two stages, with the titanium pegs placed first under local anaesthetic so the area is numb for maximum comfort. We wait a couple of months for the pegs (implants) to integrate. We are then able to clip your bespoke dentures onto the firm retentive pegs. A temporary denture can be provided to you in the interim.

The reception staff are always friendly and efficient as are the dental team. My last visit was a check up. I didn't need treatment but the dentist gave me a clean up removing any build up the electric tooth brush and tooth pick failed to remove. All done in 15 minutes.
